how’d i do?
back around xmas time when i was bored in lonely because all my friends were away, i sat down to do my annual oscar nom noms prediction list. well, this morning at 8:30 i was up watching them announce the major awards (and by them i mean Anne Hathaway and some old man, supposedly the president of the academy, who kept ogling her goodies when he wasn’t reading from the tele-prompter and mispronouncing names).
anyway, let’s see how i did:
Picture: how appropriate, The Blind Side came out of nowhere and scored a nod for Best Picture riding comfortably on the general likability of Sandy B. did not see that one coming. I got a 6/10. (i’m not including my maybes–only my sure things) i’m probably most excited about District 9 scoring a nod since it was my favorite movie of the year and will probably steal some sci-fi votes from the undeserving blue monkey movie.
Best Director: went 4/5 on this one. i thought they’d give Eastwood a “what what” but instead they went with a rag tag benetton ad of nominees. a woman and gay black man?
the woman should win, anyone but james cameron. i enjoy his movies, not him.
Best Actor: technically i went 4/5 but i only named four sure things. my next pick was in fact Jeremy Renner who did score the fifth slot.
Best Actress: I sort of went 4/5. i called out Sandy B as a possibility, but at the time she certainly wasn’t a sure thing as she has been this last month. the surprise here is that Helen Mirren got nommed instead of the deserving Emily Blunt (who i adore) but the academy often like to show some love to former winners.
Best Supporting Actor: 5/5 too easy
Best Supporting Actress: well, 4/5. ol’ maggie G. threw me for a loop and was probably the surprise of the morning.
march 7th seems so far away
i hate snow. i wish it was spring.
