goodbye miss betty

ugly-betty.jpg

it was with a very heavy heart that i bid farewell, today via tivo, to my little latino family that i got to spend time with every thursday night at 8…until this year when it was moved to fridays…and then to wednesdays at ten. yes, good bye my beautiful Ugly Betty. I will miss you.

there are very few shows that i can honestly say i miss: Friends and Sex and The City come to mind the quickest. I miss those shows. I miss those characters, in whom i saw bits of myself…in each and every one…the sad-sack helpless and hopelessly in love Ross, the super high strung Monica (i’m a lot of monica), the proud peacock pride of Joey, Chandler’s sarcasm, the striving-for-independence of Rachel Green and the humor of Phoebe…

in SaTC, i found the meaning of urban family, those we see and lean on when our real families are busy or out of reach or out of our lives…and i think that in ensemble casts like this, each member is just a shard of a whole person and together that cast makes up someone, a whole person that we maybe wish we could be.

Betty, for me, is just as wonderful. i loved Ugly Betty and i’ve been cheering her on since day one. I’m scared to even delete the latest episodes from my Tivo because, well, i just don’t want to let her go. sad, i know. but just as (SPOILERS!!!) her family and her Mode family are able to, i will be too. one day.

“i see you, Suarez!”

As for the coming out storyline of 16 year old Justin (betty’s nephew), the writers and producers and cast could not have handled that more respectfully, brilliantly, or sweetly.

I just finished watching the series finale and I’m very satisfied but also very sad that it’s over.
