um, er, it’s delicious

so my contribution for thanksgiving dinner was a banana bread (courtesy Rachel Ray). i followed the recipe exactly, my whole apartment smelled wonderful as i pulled the hot bread out of the oven.

this was on tuesday.

i figured that sealed in an air tight container, it would be perfect for thursday. the recipe called for caramelized banana slices to be placed on the bottom of the bread pan, so that when you flip it over for presentation, the caramel and bananas form a tasty layer on top.

at ma and pa henry’s for the holiday, i prepared my dish by flipping it over onto a serving platter and for those around when i did so, the reaction was…

you know when like someone has a baby and you expect it to be real cute and all, but then you pull back the little baby blanket and it’s like a horror movie? some one will say “oh my god” and clutch their pearls; someone else will say “holy shit”; and the one honest person will say what everyone else is thinking: that is the ugliest damn baby i have ever seen.

some words to describe what this banana bread looked like include “it looks like an alien abortion”, “it looks like there’s an octopus in there” and “is that sea bass?”

so, without further ado, this is what i made and what it looked like:

i will say, and others back it up (unless they were just being polite), it was delicious. and all that ugliness was nothing that an impromptu layer of cool whip couldn’t hide.
