sorority girls vs. gossip girls

i’m in a pickle tonight. in just an hour and 15 minutes Gossip Girl comes on at the same time as the season premier of Greek (which changed time slots). whatever should i do? i can tivo one and watch the other, but which one? or i can watch one and then watch the other online, but i want to watch it on a big screen, so i could theoretically hook up the computer to the tv, but that just seems like a lot of work. so…in order to decide which i will watch live and which i will tivo and watch later, i’ve decided to do a head to head list of things the shows have in common:

FRIENEMIES:

GG: Serena and Blair VS G: Casey and Rebecca

this definitely goes to Greek because serena and blair actually seem to just ebb and flow with whoever has the most drama (like one week its serena and the next it’s blair) while Casey and Rebecca actually hate each other while still respecting each other. i don’t think Blair respects Serena at all. i think the best Frienemies still respect each other.

SIDEKICKS

GG: Dorota the maid VS G: Ashleigh

i call this a tie. both are voices of reason to their alpha females (blair and casey respectively)…and while i do like dorota, i would totally hang out with ashleigh who seems like maybe she might be stepping out from casey’s shadow and that could cause some good drama.

THE BOYS

GG: Nate, Dan, and Chuck VS G: Spitter, Cappie, Evan

i think i’m going to have to give this to Greek because Gossip Girl is three for three when it comes to annoying male characters whereas Greek only seems to have Evan. Spitter and Cappie and even Dale are somewhat endearing. one does not watch gossip girl for the boys. girls rule in gossip girl.

THE UBER BITCH

GG: Penelope VS G: Frannie

now i know GG centers around blair and serena and supposedly they are co-queen bees, but honestly, blair seems so lost in her little blair-world that she hardly rules the school and serena has become such a good girl that no one really cares what she does, so that leave Penelope (the prettiest girl in school) who takes charge of the rest of the girls “on the steps” and i think would kill someone for real if the other girls didn’t talk her out of it. oh…but frannie….she is pure evil. she’s tearing apart the zeta betas! score one more for Greek.

THE DRAMA

GG: murder, drugs, alcohol, pedophilia, rape, you name it VS G: college life

obviously gossip girl goes way overboard with it’s story lines, like honestly what was up with chuck and that secret society? for every juicy story, there still seems to be one that flops big time! Greek, on the other hand, stays within the realistic college happenings realm and coasts on auto pilot. so, for drama? gossip girl wins. i’d rather have some big juicy shit going on with the occasional let down.

CHARACTERS YOU JUST WISH WOULD DIE

GG: jenny and vanessa VS G: none that i can think of

jenny and vanessa have to go. they add nothing to the show and i hate them! gossip girl wins this one. sometimes its fun to hate the characters so much, it’s like a car crash, you still gotta watch because just maybe the tv gods will hear your cries and drop a piano on one of them.

gossip girl scores two points: drama and characters you love to hate
greek scores four points in the remaining categories. Greek it is then.
