isn’t this what the holidays are all about?

i accompanied mikey to his holiday office party which was held at the Rock n Roll Hotel down on the H st. (NE) corridor which i thought was going to be crawling with hipsters but found it to be just as one might suspect a block in NE to be like: sketchy. anyway, i managed to finagle mikey out the door at about 1230, you know before all the straight women had that one drink that put them into emotional overload meltdown. i also managed to hide out in a hidden room spending dollar after dollar on a Pirates of the Caribbean pinball machine.

anyway, my big gripe of the evening (i know, me? gripe? really?) was that the headlining act (Steel Panther) was a no show. this is the only reason i was going to go. i originally suggested that mikey bring his friend Agatha so that i didn’t have to deal with, well, everything. i changed my mind when the invitation announced that Steel Panther was going to be playing.

so when some other band got on stage to do covers of some of my favorite hair metal songs (still great), i thought, oh that’s just the opening band. but when they announced a break and a second set, i was like, oh man, what in the sam hell time is Steel Panther coming on? i don’t want to be here all damn night! then the whispers started: that Steel Panther bailed. it wasn’t a big enough gig for them. so this was the quickie replacement.

here’s my theory: with original songs like Asian Hooker, The Shocker, Fat Girl (Thar She Blows), Stripper Girl and Eatin’ ain’t Cheatin’ (a personal fave), their musical styling is not exactly office party friendly. i mean, i saw at least four or five larger than average women and one or two asians. i get it. it’s offensive. but, if anyone actually listened to the band before complaining to human resources, the would see that actually the band targets everyone. they are like the Lisa Lampanelli of 80’s hair metal cover bands. EVERYONE IS MADE FUN OF. it’s all inclusive. and isn’t that what this holiday is really about? so some fat bitch probably complained and so the CEO had to get someone else.

mikey and i–well, mikey–was due to have a holiday party this saturday night, and we were going to see The Princess and the Frog in the afternoon, but with all this snow coming, not sure it’s going to happen. good thing i have my new harry potter blu-ray. probably going to be a movie marathon day!
