chicago!

it was cold. a cold cloudy day in chicago when our plane touched down and i had my new converse cardigan ready to wear with a pair of jeans and a tshirt. mikey and i had quite a day planned (well, i did anyway, and he was forced to do whatever) before the rehearsal dinner that evening for Legally Fawn and Legally Fiance Matt (now husband).

cause i’m stupid and know nothing about anything, i made the mistake in thinking that US airways had a hub at o’hare. they don’t. that would be american airlines. so we were in the air, up and down, several times that day just trying to get to chicago. if we’d driven we probably could have gotten there quicker.

anyway. oh, and we took the L-train down from ohare and i don’t know why a CTA employee actually walked some drunk/cracked out/crazy homeless person who couldn’t even stand and he had a sharply pointed broom handle on him…why that employee even allowed him on the train i don’t know, but i feel like i should write a letter.

after checking in the Fairmont Hotel in the loop, we unpacked and got ready to go eat (always the first priority).

i love chicago. i love tall buildings. after eating, we wandered over to the navy peer which was lame and touristy but gave some great views of the skyline. sort of.

i did not mess up this photo. that is cloud cover, basically obscuring most of the buildings in chicago. oh, did i mention that i’m going to break up this recap into two? yeah. i have some reading to do for school and really shouldn’t be goofing around with this here blog. especially if i’m going to get in some SuperSmash Brothers gaming in.

the navy peer reminded me of the inner harbor of baltimore or the river walk in san antonio. probably great for kids and tourists but not really that cool. or maybe i’m just bitter because mikey refused to go in the mirror maze funhouse with me.

here’s a duck:

once you’re at the end of the pier there ain’t much to look at except the oddly blue water of the lake.

big mikey, little light house

this is the semi-new trump tower. i think we were heading over to millenium park and i managed to get a shot of it.

dsc01679.jpg

this is the newish amphitheater at millenium park. i don’t get what the big deal is. it looks like a giant car wreck. i mean, it’s kind of cool…but eh.

here’s another shot:

here’s a cloudy shot of the formerly (now Willis) Sears Tower. we’ll get to that shitshow in the recap of saturday. don’t even get me started.

the “bean” in millenium park is kind of cool, but also, i imagine, very germ-y as EVERYONE has the urge to touch it. i wonder how often they clean it. here’s mikey in front of an artistic representation of my most hated food item. he kind of looks like a mexican.

dsc01687.jpg

the underbelly of the bean made me a bit nauseous because i can’t tell if it super concave or convex and it just made me dizzy and i’m like, bolt! and this next photo is of some fountain or something also in the park, and i don’t know why there fools are standing in the water because it was like 57 degrees out. and there was some fool child all drenched to the bone and i was like you’re gonna catch a sick if you don’t go dry off!

dsc01694.jpg

oh. more bean. this is our reflection in the bean. i think mikey was asking me how soon until we eat again.

dsc01689.jpg

i like this next one because it reflects the buildings.

dsc01690.jpg

i don’t why i did this one in black and white. once the clouds cleared out a bit as the afternoon wore on, we could actually see all the way to the top of some of the buildings. at this point we must have been walking around on michigan ave. and mikey was aching like old man. this is the john hancock building and i could swear the first time i was there in like 2000 there was a cheesecake factor in it. i could be wrong but for some reason i’m convinced there is one.

once mikey could take no more (and we did have to get showered and dressed for the rehearsal dinner), we went back to the hotel. unfortunately i did not bring my camera to the rehearsal dinner but it was really good (even though the cab driver took a very round about way of getting up to the lincoln park area). our table was really fun and included Emily and Bill (groom’s side–and i LOVED them. they were the most fun couple from the grooms side we met. i totally should have filmed them dancing during the reception), the matron of honor Kelly and her husband , and Aunt Loren and her husband whose name i can’t recall but who i will call Texas Pete (the groom is from texas and the whole family is VERY proud of that…and they are conservative and republican of course). i liked Aunt Loren for three reasons:

one: she thought mikey and i were legally fawn’s brothers.
two: her son looks just like rusty cartwright from Greek.
and three: she tried to set me up with her daughter’s friend.

the view from our room over looking (sort of) millenium park. next up will be more sight seeing and the wedding!!!

One Response to “chicago!”

  1. Eliza Says:

Wait. I didn’t know Aunt Lauren tried to set you up. That’s awesome.

On a somewhat similar note, everyone who sees a picture of you, me and Mikey keeps asking which one of you I hooked up with.
