stand up
so while i’m procrastinating unloading the dishwasher that actually ended its cleaning cycle three days ago, and having just returned from the gym and not really needing to exert any more energy (lemme tell ya, those dishes are heavy, y’all.)…i thought i would write a little about my intentions with this website…well, one intention anyway…a couple years ago while trying to distract myself from the drama that was my life, i decided to sign up for a class in stand up comedy at the improv here in dc. i had been blogging for several years on my old blog at that point and i know i’m funny, so i thought why not see just how funny i can be. although i think i would also be good at stand up tragedy.
it turns out i love nothing more than getting up on stage, mic in hand and talking about myself. i could go on and on. for days. weeks. i love love love talking about myself. in fact, when you’re talking to me, i’m not really listening, i am, in fact, waiting to talk about myself again.
so i enjoy stand up and have been lucky enough to get on stage a few times this past year. the problem is i work at night and i don’t know anywhere that has comedy hour at, say, noon. it’s hard to take off work and hit some open mics and i’m probably not performing as much as i should be if i really want to take this hobby to the next level. ’cause if i don’t work and i’m out there doing stand up for free (or minimal pay) at night, my bills ain’t gettin’ paid. but i still try.
and through this site, i will promote my comedy-self like a desperate whore. i will constantly update where and when i’m performing next; i will post new video clips as i make them; and i can say this now…i’ve hopefully got three gigs coming up…one, i think i’m contractually unable to talk about until everything is finalized, another in association with pride week, and i’ve submitted my material to the dc comedy festival for august but it’s not been confirmed that i’ve been accepted and probably won’t know until later this spring.
