burnt flesh

that basically sums up my weekend. i’m about as red as a crisp new uniform on a Ruby Tuesday employee. it’s painful. i really shouldn’t have forgotten to get that sunblock…but more on that later. i’m taking a break from watching Transformers and by “taking a break” i mean, turned it off. i’m bored. it’s a boring movie.

on saturday i went to a barbecue at trivia jason’s house and took part in his spydercricket podcast thing he and katie do. you can listen to it here:

i’m the one who doesn’t seem to know how to use a mic, even though i should, and i keep fading in and out as i move about animatedly. they ask me to come on board and talk about gay music–which they kept referring to as pop music–but i knew what they meant. so i talk all about what kind of gay music i like and don’t like, but i had fun and would definitely be up to doing it again. maybe next time we can tackle country music and by that i mean shania, carrie, dixie chicks, leanne, taylor, and faith. maybe martina mcbride and reba too. and we can discuss my fascination with the songs of toby keith but how i actually hate him as a person.

after the barbecue mikey and i came home to play Super Smash Bros. i’m telling you the wii may very well be the death of our relationship. we’re very excited that we’ve now become gamers, but i feel like we are too competitive to continue to only play against one another. there’s a way to hook up the wii to a wireless connection so that we can play other gamers over the internet and that might be better cause then we can kick ass together. i hope to create a Gaymers club or something.

then we went out and stopped by Halo–where i never go to, and apparently neither does anyone else–to see my friend timtation who was bartending and since there was no one there to make drinks for, he was able to give us his undivided attention. he made some crappy drink for Kai that had sage in it and it look like creek water and tasted like the potomac. 24 hrs later, he mentioned to me that he did in fact forget to add the sugar. i doubt that would have helped.

after halo, we ventured over to the bar where lots of friends were waiting and vj bernie played all my favorite songs before i got there so he was forced to play them again, which was nice. then mikey and i came home to play more Smash Bros.

on sunday, i got up extra early and a little hungover to drive mikey to the train station so he can leave me for ten days on a family vacation. and even though it was my actual birthday and he was deserting me, i though it fair since i actually worked on his birthday and held a party for him the next day. it all evens out in the end. i thought about running alongside the slowly departing train, waving a tearful goodbye with my silk handkerchief, but couldn’t find parking and decided to just slow down at the curb and toss him out. five minutes later, driving up mass ave (back home to play more Smash Bros…it’s becoming a problem) i miss him terribly. man, ten days.

i spent all sunday afternoon playing Smash Bros. and i’m having trouble with this one level and mikey says to check online how to beat it, but i don’t like cheating, so i said, no, i will figure it out eventually and about 31 tries later, i’m still stuck in the same spot and then friends arrive to go out to dinner and i’m a little upset because i’d rather stay and try to finish this level than go out to dinner at the moment. but with a smile plastered on my face, i pour some wine (pre-dinner drinks since reservation is not until eight) and pause my game (only pausing as i hope once everyone is immersed in conversation i could kind of slyly sneak back to playing). this never happens so i turn it off and we go to dinner.

then, and it’s becoming a sort of birthday tradition for my friends, we buy some beer at a local mart and sit in the backyard of 1211 S under the flood lights and drink and talk.

i think about 1230 i head home.

on sunday i was invited to the roof top pool of a friends apartment building down on 5th and Mass. if there’s one thing i don’t like about my own condo building its that we don’t have a pool. i curse you, solo piazza! i decide not to buy sunblock because one, i figure i wouldn’t be there very long and two, most pools have like a table with an umbrella or something. so i was wrong on both counts, but that’s fine cause now when i go to the beach next weekend, i won’t burn as i’ve already gotten that out of the way. but now even wearing a shirt hurts like hell and i stayed home from the gym again today because i was going to do squats and leg stuff and i can’t imagine having 400 lbs on my burnt shoulders and squatting so instead i turn on transformers and get bored.

i bought my tix for madonna this morning. i’m on the floor and have really close seats. i’m excited.
